In March 2012, Niels was accepted into the Univesrity of North Texas (UNT) College of Music to undertake a Master of Music in Jazz Performance, commencing in the 2012 Fall Semester. UNT is arguably the finest jazz education institution in the world and was also the first place in the USA to offer a formal university degree in Jazz.
In August 2012, Niels will re-locate to Denton, Texas to commence this course of study and next chapter in his musical and professional life. More info on this at Niels' Notes (Sept 2011 - May 2012) Watch this space. |

Throughout the history of jazz, the tenor saxophone has remained in the forefront of the sounds and styles which have influenced and shaped the music. From Colemand Hawkins and Lester Young, to Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter and Michael Brecker, these definitive exponents (and others) have not only shaped the sound of the instrument, but have been essential to what jazz has become. This concert presents both original compositions and standard jazz repertoire to celebrate the past and present sounds of the tenor saxophone in jazz. Niels Rosendahl will be featured in the ArtSound FM 92.7 award winning show Friday Night Live for this year's Christmas Eve special. Leading leading a quartet of exceptional local musicians including Eric. C. Ajaye (Freddie Hubbard) on bass, Evan Dorian (recently returned from London) on drums, and Olivia Henderson on piano, the quartet will present two sets featuring new Rosendahl original compositions, and a mixture of Rosendahl arranged, and other well known arrangements of Christmas repertoire in the jazz idiom, infused with influences from Tommy Smith, John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon and Sonny Rollins.
